KeymasterJuly 27, 2009 at 8:55 pmPost count: 381in reply to: Link to Forum gone? #3795I removed the Forum link in a decision about working with our Business Partners, who use CalendarBudget as “Company X’s Budget Manager”. Jumping to the Forum which has the CalendarBudget logo can be confusing.
It was a hard decision, because now people using CalendarBudget from a business partner won’t know that we even have a forum where questions can be answered and requests made… Now that I think of it… maybe I should put it back for that very reason :)The link is still there if you are coming from calendarbudget.com instead from a business partner.
Did you find it the co-branding with our business partner confusing?

KeymasterJuly 25, 2009 at 3:58 pmPost count: 381in reply to: Future Feature List #3567So would a monthly balance sheet work for this request? A balance sheet would show income on a left column, expenses on a right column?

KeymasterJuly 25, 2009 at 3:55 pmPost count: 381in reply to: Split Transactions #3766We’ve considered the idea and still think it has some validity, however, it complicates the interface for a case that will rarely be used.
We’re trying to keep CalendarBudget as simple as possible.
While we like this idea, we still have to figure out how to integrate it without confusing people who will never use this… and there are about 20 other development items which currently have a higher priority. If we see someone else support this request it will jump higher in our queue. For now, I’d estimate this request to be about 4-5 months out unfortunately.

KeymasterJuly 14, 2009 at 2:23 pmPost count: 381in reply to: drag and drop in consolidation #3792Hi,
I’d love to do that, and we hope to automate the import even more in the future… but there is a problem using the same wizard.
During account setup, you have a clean slate, there are no entries on the account calendar, so we just import everything.
However, the problem with an existing account is… you have existing entries, probably in the future also, which need to be merged (reconciled) with the incoming import data. Dragging one at a time allows the reconciling to happen since you can visually see whats happening. If we can figure out a good way to solve this problem, we’ll automate it further. In fact, once we figure that out, we are hoping to add an account aggregator, which will (optionally) go directly to your online bank account and perform this merge while you sleep every day. However, we’re easily 6 months away from that — assuming we can even come up with a design to overcome this problem of overwriting/merging existing plans.
If you have some ideas about how to solve this puzzle, we are happy to hear them. :)

Sometimes that bothers me too. If you drag a little more slowly, the drag indicator always comes up – but of course, noone wants to “go slower” just to see that indicator.
While testing, I’ve found that Google’s Chrome browser runs way faster than even Firefox. You could give that a try.
I am planning to do some general performance enhancements over the next month and I’ll be sure to investigate drag and drop and do what I can.Eric Poulin
KeymasterJune 11, 2009 at 7:24 pmPost count: 381in reply to: Split Transactions #3763I think I understand.
To put it wiht another example – if I transfer money from my Checking account to Savings, you’d like to see the Savings category affected, even though you are just moving money from one account to another. This is a good request. I’ll think about how best to do this, but I think its a good suggestion we should handle.

KeymasterJune 8, 2009 at 6:01 pmPost count: 381in reply to: Future Feature List #3565Yes, we may do that. We are having some internal discussions about that space now.
We’re trying to decide what to do when people are using CalendarBudget Premium from a partner.
At the moment, the free account shows an ad for them to upgrade to Premium. If they sign up for premium, the partners’ ad shows.I think if people sign up directly from calendarbudget.com, we can just leave that space blank and extend the categories down like you are suggesting.
We’ll have a decision on this soon.

KeymasterJune 8, 2009 at 1:40 amPost count: 381in reply to: Split Transactions #3761Actually – we just reviewed your comment and think this maybe has nothing to do with imports from banks – just regular payment of visa bill.
I think if this is approached a different way you’ll find CalendarBudget already handles this very effectively. The way this should be done is:
– Create a 2nd account for your Credit Card
– Track the individual purchases on your Credit Card on the day they happened – and to the appropriate category. These entries will now affect your category balances. You credit card account will now be in a negative balance, indicating that you owe money there.
– Then when you make a payment from Checking to Credit Card, the entry is a transfer (not withdraw or deposit). This transfer can be int he category of “banking” or whatever – it doesn’t matter since it will not affect your category balances since its a deposit and withdrawal for the same amount – just in different accounts.
-You may want to title the entry “Credit Card payment (shoes, cell phone)” or whatever to indicate what the payment was for, however the real indication will be the Credit Card account balance getting back to 0 or at least the items are being tracked correctly there. If you carry a balance you post the interest charges in your Credit Card account and the total balance owed will be correct.Eric Poulin
KeymasterJune 5, 2009 at 12:22 pmPost count: 381in reply to: iPhone App? #3769Yes – potential targets apps will be iPhone, Android, Blackberry and just regular mobile web app.
What I need before beginning anything are requirements – or in other words – what kind of things would you like to do on a mobile version of CalendarBudget?Eric Poulin
KeymasterJune 4, 2009 at 2:26 amPost count: 381in reply to: Split Transactions #3760This functionality used to be available in our account setup, but we just simplified it.
We intend to put this back in when we redesign our account setup.I think, however, you are referring to bank reconciling — being able to split these transactions would indeed be useful.
I’m adding this to our upcoming feature list. Thanks for the suggestion.Eric Poulin
KeymasterMay 30, 2009 at 4:45 amPost count: 381in reply to: Inability to Access "Account Setup (Premium)" #3758There will always be some frustration when trying to work around the limitations of a free version. There always upgrading to Premium ( :) ) which we specifically set at a low fee.
I can understand wanting to change the name of the account. Managing other accounts however can be a problem as you’ve outlined in your point 3. If you are in the Basic account level, having other accounts there should not be an issue since you just don’t use them – and CalendarBudget will automatically set you to your default account, so I’m not sure the need to delete accounts.
Perhaps a one-time use of the account setup allowing you to switch default accounts, change names or whatever would be ok – in case you didn’t make the change before slipping into Basic. Otherwise, those resitrctions are there to encourage people to upgrade while still offering a free version of the product for people with Basic needs.
For now, if you email me directly (epoulin@calendarbudget.com) I’ll switch your default account to whatever you like until I get these changes into the product.

KeymasterMay 18, 2009 at 10:42 pmPost count: 381in reply to: Display problem with Many Transactions in One Day #3732Problem has been fixed. It was caused by your account tabs being so many/long that the tabs wrapped onto 2 rows. This threw off the calculations by 1 row height. Adjusted for that – fix should be in the next code drop, by end of this week (May 22).

KeymasterMay 6, 2009 at 2:30 pmPost count: 381in reply to: Display problem with Many Transactions in One Day #3730Thumper,
In my tests I cannot reproduce the problem. Could you send me a screenshot of this problem with your CalendarBudget username to epoulin@calendarbudget.com?
Thanks.
