Sometimes you want to drag n drop an item onto an existing entry, just to move the date of it or adjust the amount. Other times you just want to pull the item over and have it created on the right day, but adjust the title.Could you be more specific regarding what you’d like to do?

KeymasterOctober 14, 2009 at 5:39 amPost count: 381in reply to: New Reports #3613I like the idea of having reports span user-set timeframes, such as paydays or start_date -> end_date.
Regarding custom reports – even a custom report has to have some guidelines. How do you envision a custom report being created? In a previous life, I worked with eCommerce analytics and I’ve seen some atrocious interfaces for custom report building and would hate to reproduce a complicated interface.

Since CalendarBudget is calendar-based, I think iCal format is probably the best way to go for a read-only format.. but I also think more investigation on how this would really be used is needed.
Having CalendarBudget data show up in, say, Google Calendar, would look really awkward. But – maybe we’ll just have the daily balance available in the iCal feed, then when you click the balance for details, your daily entries are listed in the details… still not sure how we want to proceed on this front. At any rate, I think a mobile app will take precedence and perhaps help resolve some of these issues.

KeymasterOctober 14, 2009 at 5:31 amPost count: 381in reply to: iPhone App? #3771CalendarBudget is, unfortunately, not built on the Google API. Its designed to have a similar look and feel so you don’t need to learn a new interface. In fact, we think our mouseover interface is an improvement over Google’s calendar, but that’s another story. :)
We have investigating integrating with a text messaging gateway, however we decided against it for the moment, with plans to revisit this in the near future.
We do have, near the top of my priority list, a mobile app planned. We’ll probably start with Blackberry (rather than iPhone), simply because the Java platform is more familiar. We have a number of small house-keeping items to clean up before we get there, but we hope to have at least a start on it by the end of the year.

In fact, this has been on our “to do” list for a long while – its just a matter of priority.
Thanks for the suggestion, we’ll take all of them.Eric Poulin
KeymasterAugust 27, 2009 at 3:28 amPost count: 381in reply to: Future Feature List #3570Let me propose a clarifying scenario.
Lets say you had $450 in your checking account, and had a payday coming in a few days.
You are suggesting you want to transfer this $450 to your savings account?
You can do that today, by creating a transfer from your checking account to your savings account for the $450 remaining balance.I think there are not many who do this on a regular basis, such that we’d not likely automate this, however, creating transfers in this way are straight forward, and you can even create repeating transfers into the future which will just need to be adjusted as the amounts vary from entry to entry.
Hope that answers your question. Let me know if you had something else in mind.

KeymasterAugust 26, 2009 at 12:09 amPost count: 381The pie chart shows the activity of your spending for your categories, which span all accounts.
So, when you view a report (pie chart) you are not looking at a pie chart for 1 account, but for all of your spending for all accounts.
At the moment, we do not have account specific charts, but rather are helping you look at all of your spending. When you only see spending for 1 account it can be misleading if you have major spending in other accounts, so we decided to have the reports show all account data.
If you have a need to see data for only a specific account, we can add it to our future feature list, and it will be added once we prioritize that feature.
Let me know.

KeymasterAugust 22, 2009 at 5:14 amPost count: 381in reply to: Import format (QIF/OFX)? #3635That’s a great question, and I’m glad you like our tool!
In CalendarBudget, whenever you do a drag operation, either dragging an entry from one day to another, or reconciling by dragging something from the bank import list onto an existing entry, you are making an update to only that one entry. If the item you are dragging (or for bank import – dropping onto) happens to be a repeating entry, this drag operation actually splits that single entry off of the repeating series, leaving it as a lone entry. So – the rest of your repeating series will be unaffected, just that one is affected. If you make and changes to the repeating series, the entry you dragged will not be affected anymore since its no longer part of the repeating series.
Hope that makes sense. Let me know if you have any other questions.

KeymasterAugust 17, 2009 at 9:13 pmPost count: 381in reply to: view my budget on google calendar #3800I’ve been trying to avoid CalendarBudget being a regular calendar since that whole calendar space can be very complicated and Google already has a great solution.
Having said that, I understand the want to have it all in one place. I’ll keep this thread open for discussion. If we have any bright ideas on how to do it better, I’d like to do it, but I think we don’t have a good solution yet.Eric Poulin
KeymasterAugust 11, 2009 at 10:55 pmPost count: 381in reply to: view my budget on google calendar #3798I’ve looked into making a iCal feed for CalendarBudget which could feed into Google Calendar – however, there are a few things that don’t make much sense.
1) Your daily balance won’t appear anywhere. iCal feed are just individual calendar items, they don’t have any control over the display of the items.
2) Traditional Calendar tools, like Google Calendar expect things like a time, location, etc.. With CalendarBudget data, we’d somehow need to merge the entry title with the amount so you can see it… but then you can’t do any math with it… not sure how useful it would actually be.What would you want to see in Google Calendar from CalendarBudget?

Thanks for pointing out about the scrolling issue in the repeat details dialog. We can adjust that to auto-size like the main entry dialog when you select repeat options.
I also see the issue with the “You must enter a title for this entry before submitting” callout you mentioned. I’ll see what I can do about that in our next cycle.Eric Poulin

Subcategories are down on our list. I’ll post our development schedule soon, so you’ll know where your requests stand.Eric Poulin
KeymasterJuly 30, 2009 at 4:43 pmPost count: 381in reply to: Future Feature List #3568We’ve just made the category sidebar extend all the way down. If you are a Premium user, there is no ad, and you have all of that vertical space.
