KeymasterFebruary 5, 2013 at 4:28 pmPost count: 381in reply to: Add a web link to spending events. #3956This is a good idea. We are in the middle of adding the ability to attach an image to an entry (such as a scanned bill). We could also put a “notes” section where you could add things like a URL to the vendor. We just want to make sure the entry dialog is not too cluttered.

KeymasterJanuary 24, 2013 at 10:05 pmPost count: 381We have some plans to expand the sidebar during certain actions.
While reconciling, we could expand the sidebar and try to line up the transactions – I agree, this would make is way easier.
You are just FULL of excellent ideas :)THANKS!

KeymasterJanuary 23, 2013 at 10:28 pmPost count: 381in reply to: Automatic Credit Card bill estimation #3937I hear you – you’re thinking of kind of “reserving” an amount of your balance and warning (or something) if the balance goes below.
This needs a little more thought, but I’ve added the suggestion to our bug/feature list.
[edit]
In fact, the more I think if this idea, the more I like it :)
No other tool does that.Eric Poulin
KeymasterJanuary 23, 2013 at 10:25 pmPost count: 381You raise a good point. When reconciling we look at 2 things. First, the balance on the day (regardless of the number of entries), so if you balance is right, even if you’ve split the entry it will still consider that day as “reconciled”. If the day balance doesn’t match, we start trying to match individual entries. Here the split would not get recognized. It’s a good idea to have CB try to match a split entry, we’ll add that to our list.
As for marking entries as “reconciled” that was the intent o the “Mark as complete” flag you can set by right clicking on entries – then you see the check marks and know that one is done (helpful for split entries).

KeymasterJanuary 23, 2013 at 10:21 pmPost count: 381Thanks for the question.
The “Mark as completed” flag is an optional mark on an entry saying, “this actually happened”. It was meant to be used when reconciling to say “this happened in my account on the right date for the right amount – its reconciled”. Its useful when you have a day that has a bunch of entries and you’re trying to figure out which items have been correctly reconciled and while haven’t.As for changing the color for remind me items… do you mean if you had an entry set to be reminded 3 days before, it would change color 3 days before? When would it change back to normal? We don’t want to force people to use the “Mark as complete” flag. Many use it, but not everyone. Could you explain a little more how you envision this being used?

KeymasterJanuary 12, 2013 at 1:36 pmPost count: 381Our thoughts where to keep the split transaction feature as simple as possible. We figured that in most cases the transaction need only be split in 2. In other cases where several splits are necessary, you can simply split off the first “piece from the whole, and then split the remaining “whole” again until you are done.
Did you have a different idea regarding how to implement split transactions?Eric Poulin

KeymasterJanuary 9, 2013 at 4:30 pmPost count: 381We didn’t notice the “Mark as paid” flag not working in the All Accounts tab – we’ll check that out. That would be a bug we should fix.
We’ll consider the other ideas – we don’t want to make the edit dialog too cluttered with a ton of options.Eric Poulin
KeymasterJanuary 5, 2013 at 1:31 amPost count: 381in reply to: Automatic Credit Card bill estimation #3935Interesting idea.
Not sure if CalendarBudget should do that though… Not everyone pays off their entire credit card (even though that’s the best way to go, of course).
Also are timing issues – such as transferring money from a bank account to a credit card account sometimes takes a few days to clear (or transaction sometimes don’t get posted to the credit card count for a few days) which could cause trouble if we try to automate adding up your credit card expenses.
For these reasons, I think your well intentioned idea would be better left as as-is – leaving the user to decide how much and when to transfer funds between accounts.

KeymasterNovember 21, 2012 at 10:08 pmPost count: 381As it turns out, I’m working on that exact thing right now :)
The change I’m making is a little more than just a 2nd email on reminders… but I think you’ll like it!
Its a BIG change along with some other things, so will take some time – expect it to be ready late December along with a HUGE announcement :)Eric Poulin
