CalendarBudget Support / New category budgets for 2019
« on: January 03, 2019, 04:29:57 PM »
Is there a way to set new budgets for 2019 without impacting the 2018 budgets? I don't think there is.

CalendarBudget Support / Reconciliation Problem
« on: October 27, 2018, 01:18:12 PM »
Lately I have been having one or two transactions that I can see on my bank website, but they don't show up when I download and reconcile. It happened again this week, one deposit and one transfer. I opened the qfx in text/edit, and the items are there.

Feature Wish List / Show High/Low

It would be nice to have the option to see the High/Low in the future (to the end of the month). When you're in the middle of the month, seeing that the monthly low was last week doesn't help much. Sometimes, I'd rather see what's up ahead.

Feature Wish List / Ability to Calculate in Amount Fields
« on: June 07, 2018, 09:40:24 AM »
Quicken used to have a feature where any 'amount' field would have built in calculator functions (+, -, *, /). I think it was activated if you started the entry with an = sign. This could be handy when modifying a budget for a particular month, you could add or subtract an amount from the standard budget without pulling out your calculator. I'm sure others could think of different situations where this would be helpful.

Feature Wish List / Problem with Category Highlighting
« on: June 07, 2018, 09:28:15 AM »
When I reconcile a bank account, there are certain transactions that get created that I don't assign a category to, so they become "unassigned" by default. I leave the transactions that way so I can go back afterwards and find them by checking "unassigned" in the left hand pane and then modify each one. (In my case, they are transactions that come in as withdrawals, but are really transfers to another account. I can't change w/d to transfer while reconciling, so that's why I come back afterwards to modify them.)

The problem is, when I click on each of the highlighted transactions and make my modifications, then change the category to the proper category and save changes, the category highlight becomes unchecked on the left pane. I then have to re-check it so I can find the rest of the unassigned items. Just a little annoying really, but it doesn't seem logical.

This only seems to happen when the category is "unassigned" (maybe because that is a special kind of category?).

Feature Wish List / Summary of Category Budgets
« on: May 31, 2018, 04:00:56 PM »
I'd like to suggest a graphical summary of budgets by category. It would provide a quick way to see how each individual budget is doing, spent vs. budgeted, updated as of when you logged in. If you make a change to your data, either revise a budget or download new transactions, it should refresh if you view the chart again.

The format would be a horizontal bar chart, a bar for each category, showing the percent of budget spent. The bar would be GREEN if under budget, YELLOW if nearing the budget and RED if over budget.

Here is a screenshot of a similar chart from

When I add a transfer during planning, both accounts have the same future transaction date. What really happens for a lot of financial institutions, the money is taken out of account A one day, and it doesn't appear in account B until the next day or two. Worst case, I have an HSA account that takes 5 or 6 days to show a transfer from my checking account. When I reconcile my checking account, the planning date and the actual date are the same. However, if I try to reconcile the HSA account, it goes back and changes the date of the checking account. So I can't reconcile both accounts. The result is, the next time I reconcile the accounts, there are red transactions that I can't fix and they stay red forever.

Bottom line, it would be great to allow a different date for each side of a reconciled transaction.

Testimonials / Just What I Was Looking For

Calendar Budget is a great personal finance tool. I have all my cash and credit accounts set up, along with recurring bills. I've set up budgets and monitor them each month. I download my bank account info and reconcile each week, usually Saturdays. It only takes 15 minutes or so and keeps me focused on my money with minimal time spent. I like that it allows me to change the budget monthly, since I have certain bills like home insurance that I only pay once a year.

What I really like is the running balance shown each day, which allows me to look ahead and see where my finances will be. There's nothing out there that allows this! I can do what if's by changing numbers or adding new expenses, and see the impact in the future.

Great product, and keep up the good work!
