category spending totalization by date range

It would be very handy at tax time to be be able to see my actual totals spent in a category for the year or by a date range for categories such as home repairs, medical, taxes, etc., rather than looking at my budgeted amount and then trying to calculate my annual actual amounts spent in a given category, that would add a great deal of usefulness for many. Thanks !
